Breyers LOW CARB ice cream is here!!! (Woo Hoo)
from AJC.com (Atlanta newspaper!)
Today, Good Humor-Breyers plans to officially unveil the latest on that product list: a low-carb ice cream in three flavors that's already appeared in some grocery stores. The company also will offer low-carb chocolate ice cream bars in its Klondike line. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!! Click to read: http://www.ajc.com/health/content/h.../29lowcarb.html |

By whom is your quote? I really like it. (Probably going to like the Breyer's, too, when I get off induction!)

this is great news
here's the breyer's page on it. http://www.breyers.com/products/pro...art&pageCount=1 |
Oh they have CarbSmart (the new Breyers brand?) at Super Walmart! The fudge bars..I didnt get any cuz I already had a box of Blue Bunny Lite bars in my cart, but theyre there. I tried the Blue Bunny bars, and its not that I was disappointed..tasted just like an icecream bar should..Maybe its just that..I was expecting to enjoy it TONS and I was thinking as I was eating it...I could have used the 6 carbs in some other way...This isnt that great....Anybody else feel like this?
|
I am literally jumping up and down! WOO HOOOOO maybe those who predict our supermarkets being full of low carb stuff will be right! :) I will be having this next summer for sure!
|
I've heard some concern over whether or not the carb counts on the package are right - from what I've heard, the second or third ingredient in this stuff is the completely non-low-carb-friendly High Fructose Corn Syrup!!!! So how can the count be so low with that stuff in it?
|
|
I can't wait to try it. The Atkins ice cream was not very good in my opinion. I LOVE most of the other Atkins products but the ice cream did not cut it. Breyers makes excellent regular ice cream so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
|
Dammit...They have a page you lookup what stores have which Ice Creams in your area...But, they don't have the LC Ice Cream on the list of choices to search for. So, only way I'm gonna find out is to basically check every grochery store in person.
|
I jsut found all 3 Flavors at my local Winn-Dixie. This stuff tastes great. Not wuite as rich as the Atkins Ice Cream. But, more like Regular Ice Cream.
|
Woo Hoo!!! We've been living on Sugar Free Denali's Moose Tracks for months... it will be great to add variety to our favorite indulgence.
:dazzle: :yay: :dazzle: :yay: :dazzle: :yay: :dazzle: :yay: :dazzle:  :cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer:  |
i am eating breyer's carbsmart strawberry ice cream atm. 1/2 cup i'm trying hard to stay at (and i don't have much of a sweet tooth). all i can say is YUM! :yum: :yum: :yum:
|
on second thought, anyone know if breyer's lying? how can stuff this good be only 4 net carbs????

Personally I'd count 7 net carbs, but that is becaus eI always count sugar alcohols and glycerine. "Minimal effect" on blood sugar isn't the same as no effect. I'm going to go search my local super walmart for the chocolate bars though. I love the LeCarb homade vanilla though, so it will have to be good to compete :) |
I bought a box of the Klondite CarbSmart fudge bars at my local Winn Dixie. They are excellent! I thought they'd be like a Fudgesickle, rather hard and icy. (I don't really like Fudgesickles.) But, they weren't like that at all. The ice cream is soft and fluffy, very creamy.
I'm glad that this is in a bar, where I eat only one. It's so good that if I had to scoop this out of the container, I'd have trouble with portion control. |
I just got back from the store, and this is one product I definetly won't be buying.
First: The third ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup Strawberry Byer's comp to Strawberry LeCarb (both 1/2 cup servings): The LeCarb has 6 total carbs with 3 fiber for net 3 (all from glycerine which many don't count). The Bryers has 12g total carbs with 0 fiber. It has 4g of sugars, and 5 of SA's. It also had alot more fat and calories then the LeCarb, but that's not as important on this WOE :) I then looked at the Breyer's No Sugar Added Icecream. Basicaly it had 15g of carbs with 4 sugar and 4g SA. It basicaly looks like Breyers tweeked the no sugar added, put in sugar (the high fructose corn syrup), added additional SA's, and found a new market. While the price is lower then LeCarb, I don't think I'll switch brands. |
The Carbsmart ice cream from Breyers is great - MUCH better than the nasty Atkins stuff, which I had to throw out.
It's very creamy and not chocolatey enough, but no aftertaste at all. Tip - on the breyer's site's locator, when trying to find where it's on sale, they don't list it as Carb Smart but search for the thing called choc/vanilla/straw - this is the same product. Now if only Ben and Jerry or Haagen Dazs would jump on the bandwagon..... __________________ |
If only I could find low carb Ben and Jerrys Phish Food :-(

Last night my dh was eating a HagenDas full fat, real deal, ice cream bar and I begged a bite (hey, I'm on maintenance ;) )
Guess what? It tasted naaasty.......like straight sugar! What the heck? Guess I won't worry about low carb ice cream, if the real thing doesn't do it for me anymore, guess I'll pass! :) |
I saw the new Breyers low-carb in Target here in Alabama. They had three flavors I think. I was looking for something darker chocolate. I like dark chocolate ice cream. I've written the Velvet company to see if they are distributing in AL. They aren't, but do mail-order. You have to order 4) 1/2 gal., so I'm thinking, what if I don't like it? Then what? But, someone said it's really good, so I may go with it. I'm really into the richer, fatter ice creams.
|
I am afraid that I could not eat just one serving!!! How many carbs are in the container?
Like Bread - I think I will have to wait until I am under 200 lbs to try it!! |
Quote:
16 servings x 10g Total Carbs = 160g Total Carbs 16 servings x 3g Fiber = 48g Fiber 16 servings x 3g Sorbitol = 48g Sorbitol 160 - 48 - 48 = 64 Net Carbs (8-16g HFCS/48-56g Lactose by my estimates) for the entire Half Gallon. |
That's why I hesitate to buy 4) 1/2 gal. at a time even if I do like it. I eat one to two small bites of ice cream every week. I've had a pint of LeCarb in my freezer for 2 weeks now and only 4 bites out of it. I'll probably have to throw it away by the end of this week. I've lost my taste for sweets since I started Atkins. I only eat a bite or two of ice cream to cool my tongue after eating hot peppers. As soon as I find something else that works as well, I'll probably give up ice cream altogether. But, I have my downfalls on carbs. Mine is chips, not ice cream or sweets. Salt and vinegar chips just call my name. I struggle with that carb all the time.

Thanks for the research LadyBelle. And to think, I was so excited to have an alternative to Denali's Sugar-free Moose Tracks (which is so good it would be hard to compete with anyway). :yum: Folks, stay diligent and READ YOUR LABELS CAREFULLY! These companies do not have a concience, they're only concerned with their profits. |
With the corn syrup, it might be ok for those at Maintenance. Does anyone know if they have it in the Portland, OR area?
I wonder if they have the Denali's here? I used to love the Moose Tracks! |
