Dry skin

Since I've been doing Atkins WOE my skin has gone very dry. I didn't expect this because I'm eating a high amount of fat. Has this happened to anyone else?
I know it's gone dry on my face becasue of a new cream I'm using for rosacea but my arms and legs are bad also. The skin on my legs looks like a parched dessert with little cracks!

My skin has improved actually. But then I take 2 flaxseed oil capsules daily.

Flaxseed oil or fish oil capsules might help. Also, have you tried using a loofah? It may just be that you're shedding skin faster than you were before.

How is your water consumption? Lots of water should help your skin also.

Actually, mine is greatly improved. But I attribute it to the many supplements and the 144 oz of water I drink per day.

Is there a chance the cause of your dry sckin can be attributed to another change?

I agree - drinking 2-3 liters of water a day is a must for a great skin. Actually my skin was a bit dry in the first 3 weeks but then improved big time. Just hang on, it will pass!

Body Shop Body Butter works perfectly on dry skin, so does a good peeling.

water

you could all be right about the water you know. I hardly drink any! Bad girl I know but I tend to have diet drinks. I'm starting my third week today so I'll hang on in there and see if it passes. I love Body shop stuff but it's so expensive for me. I've been reading about Palmers cocoa butter cream I might try that - the only trouble is it apparently smells like chocolate!! Wonder how many carbs are in it :D

I'd have to agree with everybody else...

My skin has improved dramatically! :D I don't even get zits or anything anymore. :D

I've had zits every day for the last 30 years.

Until yesterday, that is, about 9 weeks into Atkins.

Gosh, I hope this lasts!

my skin

My skin is better than it has been in years. I think it's a combination of Atkins (also no more digestive problems) and the emu oil cream I buy from the US and have sent over. It's worked wonders on my rosacea. I'm not wearing foundation for the first time in about 20 yrs.
I've only lost 11lbs (in only 16 days - very happy) but my body has changed shape. That and the good skin and I'm much more confident already.

Almond oil or Olive oil. The are natural, contain no added dyes or perfumes that may irritate your skin, and surprisingly soak into your skin quickly without leaving a greasy feeling.

Almond oil is my personal favorite. Warm it up in the microwave for a few seconds before putting it on your feet. What a delight!

Please, drink water! Not only for the skin, it's important for EVERYTHING. ;)
Here's something for you to see....................

I know

I need to drink more water. My body tells me but if I'm faced with a choice of a bottle of water and a bottle of SF lemonade I tend to go with the 'sweet' option. I'm at work today and will nip out to the supermarket to buy a ready cooked chicken for lunch and I WILL buy some water to go with it! You have strengthened my resolve peeps. :)

I suspect water would help with the constipation as well?

Absolutely! Good luck with the water - you WILL notice everything changing to the better. It's a MUST on this WOE, sorry for preaching. ;)

I have severe dry skin and I have not noticed a change either way, definitely not worse. It is nice I don't get pimples any more.

madzone Wed, Apr-23-03 11:56

Don't worry Alina

I don't see it as preaching I see it as support and I'm very grateful for it. :)

I've managed to put away 3 litres of H2O today. Hopefully at I'll see the difference soon.

Good skin, now dry skin

Early on in my low-carb adventure, I started taking both cod liver (2 tsp) and organic, unrefined coconut oil (2 TB) interally each day. I also drank 80-120 oz. of water daily. My skin became hydrated and smooth. I also lost 40 lbs and 11% BF.

In the past week, my skin has started to dry out again, with no change in my diet. Would anyone care to venture an explanation for this?
