Let me think ... let me think...

I just got home from working all day on a theatre display installation, and I'm pretty wiped out. (Yes, Sunday at 10 pm. :rolleyes: )

I'll think over the few days and see what I can come up with -- How do people feel about other boroughs besides Manhattan? I'm thinking primarily about Brooklyn, followed by Queens.

What about Coney Island?

Tons of goofy fun, and clams on the half-shell are pretty low carb. :cool:

I wouldnt mind it, but its kind of a pain to get to brooklyn if you are coming from Jersey.

I would have to take a bus into port authority and then another train for 45min + depending on where in brooklyn possibly more or it might require transfering, and the bus to the city is already 45 min. Plus there is the trip back.

Same for those traveling farther than I am. I live about 10 min from the bridge, so pretty close to the city, but the public transportation sucks in Jersey. My father lives near Coney Island and it would literally take me hours to get there by train from here.

Manhattan is more central I think.

Same here... I am coming from Philadelphia so I think Manhattan might be the easiest to get to.

Manhattan would be the best for me, too, mass transportation wise. Any chance of finding decent parking in Brooklyn or Queens?

Well unless more people come by before tomorrow I will christen it Central Park for now and reseach what needs to be done to meet there. Any objections - speak up!!

Transportationwise, I think Central Park will work for everyone, so move right along!!

OK...lol...started some research already. Now did we want to BBQ or picnic? We can picnic in Central Park, but we cant BBQ. We CAN BBQ in East River Park on the Lower East Side or in St. Nicholas Park at 133rd Street and St. Nicholas Terrace in Harlem.

So what are your thoughts? It cost $25 to reserve park space. If it is more than 20 people it is required and less than 20 it is optional.

So are we going to just do a picnic potluck in Central Park or do you want to BBQ on the Lower East Side (or Harlem)?

Several areas in Central Park are suitable for picnics.

The Great Hill at West 106th Street near CPW,
the East Meadow near Fifth Avenue between 97th and 101st Streets,
the Ross Pinetum on the west side near 86th Street,
and Cherry Hill and Mineral Springs near 72nd Street on the west side

are all popular picnic spots.

Those of you in NY...any preference to put in our request if we decide on a picnic?

I'm subscribed to the thread, honestly, but a bit distracted with work stuff lately.

It's generally easier for me to get to the UES than the UWS, so just on that, I'd go for East Meadow. But for anyone coming into Penn Station (PA/NJ/LI), it would be easier to stay on the West Side. If' you're coming from Westchester/points north, it's easy enough to take the shuttle to Times Square and then head up to the UWS. It'll probably be easier for the majority of the people coming from out of town to get to the UWS.

Another possibility would be Cedar Hill, east side just north of 76th St.

In terms of space, the Great Hill will probably be less crowded than the other spots.
