Bumping up :agree:

freckles Wed, Jan-12-11 00:26

Based on recent posts this bump is MUCH needed!

Back to #1 ~ The MOST important way to start the LC lifestyle is to pick a plan, read and reread the book and follow the rules in the book.

After that you can come here to get any questions answered. Just please read the book!!!

GlendaRC Thu, Jan-13-11 02:05

Oh yes, freckles!!! Seems we just can't say that often enough ... and it's SO important. Pick a plan and read the book ... ALL of it! And keep it handy to refer back to when you forget ... and you will forget some things. Anything you don't understand, come here and ask to have it explained or said a different way - someone will probably be able to do that for you.

Soooo.....

Let's list some of the most important things for these newcomers so that maybe we don't need to repeat ourselves 12 times. We could just refer them to this thread.

I'll start off with:

1. Read the book. Know your plan. Follow your plan thru all the written stages.

2. Weight loss is not linear. DO NOT expect to lose weight every day. Weight loss comes in fits and spurts.

3. Measure before starting. Although you may see no loss on the scale, you could still be losing inches.

4. If you are at this again, I DO NOT believe in the one golden shot theory. If that were so, I would not be here at goal after the third time having a re-do. I do believe that the more you repeat, the more you are doing the plan by memory which is not such a great idea--you become a bit fast and loose with the plan when you're doing it by memory. In addition, you're older, you may have health or metabolic/hormone issues, you may be taking medication that makes it harder for you to loose, but not entirely impossible.

5. Stay away from bars, shakes, and other foods that are packaged as low carb, particularly in the beginning. Although perhaps labeled induction friendly (I'm thinking Atkins products) they are NOT. Don't be fooled.

6. Dieting is hard--don't let anybody try and tell you it's not. Being fat is hard. Pick your hard.

I could probably go on but I'll let some wise LC participants chime in here.

To all you newbies good luck!

Lisa

Progress not perfection.

I may be a bit late in commenting here (I'm just back on Atkins after a months-long stall then 10 lbs regain and panic), but your steps rock. I especially like tips 4 and 5 - 5 in particular. You rock - thanks :)

lovemypets Wed, May-18-11 16:01

Love all the tips and support here! I'm on the other end with the diarrhea thing...I drink plenty of water, I eat my 2-3 cups of veggies a day and I walk. I recently started taking Salba, (6 grams of carbs per 2 T. but 6 Fibers... so 0 net.) anyone tried it??

dmmiller Tue, May-31-11 08:52

I am in week 3 of the Atkins diet. In week 1 I lost 4lbs and week 2, my weight loss was like a yo yo. I went up 2 and back down 1. Week 3, I got on the scale and it said that I had gained 4lbs. So I am almost back to where I started. Frustrating!!. I am sticking to the diet and exercising 4 times a week for 45 minutes. I can tell that I have lost inches but why is the scale being so unforgiving?

Elizellen Tue, May-31-11 11:17

Well if the inches are going so is the FAT!! :thu:

Scales weight will reflect any water retained either after increasing exercising/tearing muscles etc or too much sodium in foods or the normal hormone-driven fluctuations we lucky women experience even after menopause, as well as any waste accumulating if you are constipated.

Stick to relying on your tape measure!!

Just posting so newbies could see the "I am so bored with Low Carb food thread".

There's also a truly wonderful section with nothing but recipes. You really should go give it a look.
