water, water everywhere

Why does increasing the water help weight loss? I've read it several times but don't understand the physiology - anyone help? How many lbs to the kilo? I too am flummoxed when faced with kgs.

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. We went on a family outing and I managed to stick with the program which was a relief - at one stage it looked like it might be a sandwich lunch which would have been  but in the end I had a salad. :) My sister invited me to join her family for an Indian meal to celebrate her birthday in a few of weeks - help! Will I resist the naan bread and onion bhajis?

Hi Everyone

I too would love to lose at least 25 pounds by Xmas. It is the time of year that we run into more people than any other time of year. Some people I only see once a year at annual Xmas parties. It will be fantastic to see their reaction! So count me in. Weigh in is Tuesday? I have so many weigh in's now it's not funny.

My goal weight for Xmas is 175. That's 33 pounds away!

I think when you increase water it helps you get rid of some of the water you may be retaining. I could be wrong!

The scale was down 3 lbs today, not counting it unless it says that tomorrow on official weigh in. I'm crossing my fingers big time!

CaseyZee Sun, Aug-31-03 15:12

Ugh!

I am NOT looking forward to weigh in tomorrow. I just had a complete train wreck on Friday. For some reason, I had convinced myself that I was starving to death. (Obviously I'm a LONG way from that point  ) Anyway, not sure what the trigger was but I consumed every bit of 4400 calories. Yes, that's not a typo, 4400. It was all low carb stuff - no Snickers bars snuck in. But still. What could I have been thinking. So, after being down to 229 earlier in the week, I'm back up to 232. We'll see how the scale treats me tomorrow. UGH!!

Me too Me too! I'm a regular lurker (shame on me) but I think I'd like to change that.

I've been consistently Atkins-clean since April 23 and have lost 18 lbs. so far...but I need some extra motivation to keep at this until I reach a new low (certainly a new low since I had two wonderful daughters :) . This oughta do it!

I'll weigh in on Tuesday and provide a starting weight...it'll be somewhere around 168/170. My goal by Christmas is 150.

I have lots of fitness goals that are the real challenge. I can eat Atkins-perfect...but get outta bed for that morning cardio? VERY difficult!

I know I lose much better when I work out...and now I can't let everyone down. I'm such a people pleaser...hopefully that trait will come in handy now!

Good luck to everyone...

Jill,

We have the same start and goal weight. Here's hoping we both make it and then some!

That goes for everyone!

Keep up the great work.

If you've had a bad day, get up, brush yourself off and DON'T beat yourself up over it. Just resume the next meal or next day! We all do it and have done it. Gaining a couple pounds and getting right back on is better than giving up and regaining 10, 20, 50 or more.

That's what I did 4 years ago and I'm determined not to give up this time. I weighed 158 in 1999 so this is a way of life for me now. I know, I know, easier said than done. But these boards have been such an inspiration to me.

Casey - we all have those days, remember most of that weight is probably water weight, and will be gone soon. I wake up early usually on Mondays(3 hours later today) and late on Tuesdays so I weigh in on Monday. 2 lbs lost. I'm happy, but 2 lbs in 2 weeks makes me wonder if I can get to my goal for Christmas!

huggs2ewe Mon, Sep-01-03 13:02

on the road to xmas

Lovablelc we need to average about 1.5 - 1.8 a week to make it to 25lbs by Xmas. I think it is do able. We will support each other and encourage.

I had a rather lot of extra carbs last night for supper; had company over. Most of it was in the form of veggies though so hopefully I will do ok in the weight in tomorrow. I tried a few new recipes. Has anyone tried Jicama root. I had a salad of that at a buffett a couple of weeks a ago and loved it so I tried to make it up on my own. It was really good, crunchy different tast.

Made 8 servings

2c of juliene jicama = 10 net carbs
1 small red onion thinly sliced = 7.5 net carbs
1/4 c mayo = 1 carb
1- 2 tsp to your taste of splenda= 2 carbs
1tbsp vinager
salt and peper
=20.5 total carbs or 4.5 per serving

anyway, I did my pilates on Sat morning, and did treadmill this morning so hopefully I will be back on tract for wt in tomorrow. I weighed as usual on Friday (my weight day) and I was up a pound that is the first gain I have had since I started. I was really bloated so I hope that this was the cause and the scale will be down tomorrow. Best of luck to us all.
