There are also many people who'd rather take the pills or shots of insulin than adjust their current diets. I think that's why so many doctors haven't been aggressively promoting low carb food. they pretty much know that most people won't want to give up bread and pasta and potatoes! It's easier to just pop a pill.

I'm afraid nobody will get to those people until their situation is dire and maybe not even then! I think if you at least try, you'll know you did your best to help them get healthier. In the end, of course, the choice is theirs to make.

My dad has "bagel addiction". I've tried telling him that since his pancreas still functions he stands a good chance of getting off the long-acting insulin at night and reducing his oral medications, but I guess the thought of not having his bagels anymore is too daunting. Why sacrifice that when his doctor is telling him here's a little shot and you're all fine? He has some neuropathy, but no blindness or kidney failure, and his obesity doesn't seem to bother him so I guess there's no incentive. Oh well I tried, and failed too.
