Might be worth remembering that in the UK it looks like the 'junk food' that will be targeted includes a lot of the stuff we eat.

By "we", do you mean us low carbers, or us British in general? Although foods like cheese and butter are high in fat, I don't think even the government would class them as junk (I hope!). I hope they mean processed, packaged and fast food. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I totally agree. I too would prefer that the government stay out of this.

I also agree with the posters who pointed out that fats (esp. saturated ones) are still considered the devil, so any ratings system would slam these in favor of grain products. Any sin taxes would be levied on these. There are too many powerful lobbying groups that would ensure that their carby sugary processed crap continues to get the government nod. It just wouldn't get done right. Ratings would simply become one more tool of misinformation to steer people away from LC.
