I've had to think about this one for a while because to be honest I couldn't think of anything 'hard' about this WOL. I absolutely love it. I love how it makes me feel, I love how it has helped me transform myself and I love how it tastes. If backed into a corner I'd have to say the hardest thing about LCing as a WOL for me would have to be those times when I am travelling (now).

LCing is about eating whole, natural foods. The things we eat do not come in boxes or wrapping. They spoil fast. Living in a hotel room this poses a slight problem - one that can be handled with a little planning.

Other than this minor inconvenience I think this has to be one of the easiest 'diets' (as in dietary plans) around - it's black and white. Either something is good for you or it's not, there's no inbetween, there's no 'just one bite, it's only a few calories', there's no calorie counting!

Sometimes not being able to eat what others are is hard. I went on a frisbee tournament not too long ago. I didn't drive, b/c I don't have a car at school, and what did the guys (It was mostly guys I went with) want to get for dinner? Pizza. I really had no other food options and didn't want to starve or be a nuisance saying I couldn't have that...

The COST!

So far I've only been on this WOL for 15 days. Yet I have easily spent TWICE the money on food that I did on high-carb, low-fat food for the past several years. I am eating MUCH healthier and I am losing weight. AND enjoying all the formerly "forbidden" foods. I have bought a LOT of the "atkins syrup" to put in club soda and while this is obviously a preference, it has cost me a bit of money - I've found that a huge glass of chocolate & cherry syrup with club soda (and occasionally a little cream) takes away any urge for munchies - and usually, any cravings for a nice big rum and diet coke. :-)

My cravings for high carb foods aren't too bad, although fresh baked breads at restaurants are hard to pass up (but I am able to get past it). Even the "cheating" I have done (which I don't consider "cheating") has been with LC foods (or vodka...). You know, too much cheese, or a few more pieces of broccoli at dinner.

re: no homemade bread

Yes, it is VERY difficult. And I know if I have "just one piece" it will be harder for me to stop than to just not start. This also lets Mom know how serious I am about sticking to the diet. I ate Dad's homemade pizza because he made a very thin, almost cracker crust, and because he's so proud of being able to make pizza now. Even though I left as much crust as I could without just scraping off the toppings, it left me feeling lousy. So it helps that I know white flour makes me feel bad. My husband is still getting used to the idea that I don't eat pasta. We used to eat at Fazoli's about once/week.

It's really a surprise to me but I miss chips the most. I thought it would be bread, but thanks to LC recipes I can have a slice once in a while. :D

indeed LCing has brought many tough changes in exchange for better health:-

-higher cost (buying proteins, protein bars, diet sodas etc)

-more patience (continuing to LC despite seeing the scale not moving)

-sense of control (out with family/friends, or on occasions where my company orders pizzas and birthdays, removing breading on KFC chicken, when i open my fridge, passing by bakeries, chocolate houses....i am just attracted by their smell in fact no desire to eat them)

-tolerance of other people's remarks (esp from mom and dad..sometimes friends)

But I am really glad that these days much focus has been on the credibility of low-carbing.....Singapore media is following the American media and telling everyone carbs is not exactly that heavenly....so at least those intolerant friends of mine (swore by calories dieting and starvation) will not say that much.

By far the hardest thing for me is when I have no time to prepare a good meal to take to work...there are not very many good choices for food on the go. :(
