I came to my goal weight by the weight I was most comfortable at before gaining.

However..........

I have smaller goals and rewards for meeting those.

250, 225 are something new (shoes probably ;) ).

200 is my first real big one and as soon as I get there (199), I get a day spa trip.

It will be something special for 175 and 150 again, and when I reach my goal... we are taking a cruise. :yay:

I think rewards for goals are important but don't get me wrong... I think treating yourself right everyday is important too. Little things - pedicures, massages, a good book, an evening in the porch swing... whatever makes you feel good NOW!!!

Hi All,

I'm a newbie here and to this general WOL/WOE. But I have to say that I've tried many methods for losing weight, and I've concluded that what the scale says is not a true reflection of the ideal "you".

I was born fat with a thyroid problem. That cleared up in my youth, but I've always been big. Therefore I do not know what "ideal" weight at which I would feel best. So, I'm gauging myself by clothing sizes. Body fat, too, when I get that measured. I'm a size 52-54" pant right now, and my goal is 38-40 (my junior high school size). I'll be feelin' LEAN-N-MEAN when I reach that!

QUESTION: Is there a scale anyone could recommend that measures above the 350 mark? Even the scale at the doctor's office stops at 350. So neither they nor I really know if I'm 351 or higher.

Thanks in advance. You are all great and inspirational!

I chose 175 as my goal weight because it is what I weighed in high school and I was comfortable then. But it is not written in stone. That is still "overweight" by the charts. (I'm 5'6".) I may want to lose more when I get there -- for now it sounds wonderful. But I have noticed that I am wearing smaller sizes at higher weights on the way down than on the way up, so who knows? I wore a 17/18 at that size then -- maybe I'll be smaller at that weight now.

When I first started dieting last July, 175 pounds sounded like a lofty goal. I weight close to 400 lbs. (No, I didn't lose it all on Atkins -- I lost the first 80 lbs on my own before I learned about low carb.) But now it does not seem that far away. I'm over halfway there at least!
