I think this is a very good point...any of us with children are familiar with the syndrome.
And there is some research to back it up.

In the original article the targeted children are described as so fat they can barely walk and are in danger of dying. I doubt these children needed to be weighed in order for their problem to be discerned.

A few weeks ago I was at my mothers for dinner and my little 8 year old sister was telling me how every time the kids get a good grade on a test or earn a gold star or for every little thing they get a choice between a bag of M&Ms a snickers bar or a milky way.

I told my mother to write a letter to the school but she said that she doesnt want to make my sister feel left out while all the other kids get candy and she cant. I suggested maybe encouraging small toys instead of the candy or something.

As for weighing kids in school, I think it should be done in private if at all, but I think all children in school should be encouraged to cut out the refined processed junk and it wouldnt be an issue. It shouldnt be made that the fat kids get salad for lunch while the thin kids get macaroni and cheese. None of these kids need all that sugar and other junk.

Ironically, the school cafeteria probably provided the starch and sugar. We serve something called "Power Balls" for breakfast. You guessed it, primarily sugar, transfats and flour. The "power" part is the vitamin powder they add so they can label it "fortified".
We can educate people until the cows come home. Many people in our community cannot afford to purchase the product(veggies) they harvest. Many others do not have a car to access healthy choices. So they rely on the school to help.

You said it Quest! I don't need a scale. I need decent food to feed these kids.
