We have so much corn it led to sweetening with high fructose corn syrup, which only uses part of the corn (courtesy Bob Dole.)

Itsthewooo - totally agree with you. I don't think there was ever some horrible "let's make everyone sick" conspiracy. I think the low fat lie was something that just got out of control, a myth that no one (except maybe Atkins folks) bothered disputing. But here we are decades later, and there's not only a LOAD of money at stake, but the reputations of the "experts" and powerful organizations who bought the myth. The food companies loved low fat - they jumped on the bandwagon because sugar, flour and HFCS are dirt cheap. It simply won't be that way for low-carb products. They stand to lose a lot of dough (pun intended).

So we seem to have a whole lot of powerful people doing everything they can to maintain the low fat lie, despite its increasingly-easy debunking. I'm not sure whether or not "conspiracy" is the right word, but I can't think of a better one.
